Introduction to Solids

For almost 6 months, William ate only breastmilk, as advised by the World Health Organisation. I am very proud to have succeeded in breastfeeding him, and supplying enough for his needs. It has also made it very cost effective for me!

As advised, I was to introduce William to solids when he was 6 months old, starting with 1 week of rice cereal breakfast. I was getting very excited, so I cheated! I gave him his first taste of rice cereal on 9 March 2008, a few days short of him becoming 6 months. Not only because I couldn't wait, but also because on 13 March we were going to Singapore and I wanted to make sure that we are ok with the rice cereal and spoon feeding at home.

He loved it. While he ate he was smacking his lips loudly. We didn't make too much of a mess, well it didn't look very messy because the rice cereal was while. The photo was taken at the end of the meal.

However, after a few days of rice cereal he was a bit bored probably because it is a little bland! Oh well, that just gives me reason to give him different stuff to excite his tastebuds!
